Stop Your Cats From Biting Your Kids!

Cats are roughly three times more likely to administer a cat bite to children than adults. There are many reasons for this including provocation by a child and the unpredictable nature of how a child can play with your pet. What can we do to prevent our cats from biting children?

It is advisable to keep your feline away from children under the age of four. A child under this age simply will not recognise your cat as a animal and is prone to treating it like a toy which can lead to rough handling of your pet. This will often lead to a cat bite.

Never let your child play alone with your pet. Always keep a close eye on what is going on. Be sure to establish ground rules for your children whilst playing with your feline. Make sure that they are aware that a animal has sharp claws and teeth. Educate your child to bond with your pet and play gently with him or her. Start by slowly introducing your feline friend to your child. if your cat wishes to run then let him do so. Avoid provocation and confrontation

between your pet and child.

Animals simply do not like being disturbed at important times in their daily routine. Important times for a cat are sleeping, eating and nursing kittens. At these times it is important to keep your child away from playing with your feline. Should a child interfere with your cat at these times then the chances of a cat bite are increased.

By making sure that your child understands your pet you will dramatically decrease the chance of your child getting a cat bite. You may even stop cat bites.
